Multiple important figures of the media industry have contributed to the discussion of LGBTQ+ community representation. Namely, Sarah Kate Ellis, who after a distinguished career as a media manager, she was elected President and CEO of GLAAD in early 2014. GLAAD is a non-profit media monitoring group based in the United States that was created in response to defamatory coverage of LGBTQ+ persons. Her career as a journalist is indeed full of experience from companies such as Vogue, Real Simple, and New York Magazine. As explained by her, after her wife and she wrote "Times two" a book about their simultaneous pregnancies, in 2011. She and her partner sought assistance from GLAAD in order to use our narrative and book to help other lesbian moms like her. After years of working in the media and not seeing herself or her family represented, She joined GLAAD to serve as a resource and thinking partner for media businesses to better convey stories about families like hers and to reach LGBTQ adolescents.

Her opinion is clear: Media must change and be more inclusive for the queer community. For this reason, she created the project LGBTQ+ inclusion in advertising and media with P&G. The purpose was to do long-overdue research into the impact of media, advertisements, and brand communications. Moreover, she is continuously seeking new projects to make the media more inclusive. In the video below you can see an amazing speech where Sarah explains how the LGBTQ+ journey has been in the media for the GLAAD Media Awards in the 32nd Version
